Writing Brilliance: Creative Writing Lessons for ADHD Students

These lessons are designed to hold a student attention. ADD/ ADHD students are referred to as “inspired writers” in this curriculum due to their creative abilities. These lessons will inspire ADD/ ADHD students to write in a more directed way. The aim of this course is to get inspired writers excited about the writing process and is designed with very little teacher preparation. Parents/ teachers merely have to read the Lesson and the materials portion to see if they need to acquire any materials. Most of the materials have been kept to a minimum or are general household items, such as flour or salt. The curriculum approach is rather simple. It is as easy as 1-2-3.OneFirst read the Lesson’s instructions and do the Lesson, which may be a game, craft or reading selection. Next read the “Materials Needed” section so that you will know what is needed for that lesson. When the word “none” appears under “Materials Needed”, it simply means there are no craft items for a particular lesson.TwoNext, have inspired writers complete the worksheet(s) for the specified lesson. These sheets include the workshop sheets. After the sheets are completed, discuss the workshop questions with the other inspired writers (siblings or homeschool cooperative pupils). Most of the workshop questions are open-ended subjective questions designed to spark conversation. Since the questions are based on opinions, there is not necessarily a definitive right or wrong answer.ThreeThere is an optional independent writing assignment that accompanies each lesson.
